Welcome! I’m glad you’re here.
My name is Kaycee and if you’re reading this– you obviously already know a few things about me. I like to write, I love to read, and I enjoy sharing those loves with others. But maybe you had an inkling that there may be more to me than that, so here it goes…
My family and I live in upstate South Carolina. I attended Clemson University (Go Tigers!) where I met my husband, Ryan. We got married in 2015 and we have a beautiful almost-two-year-old daughter who is the light of our lives! She is bright and spunky and bossy–and, of course, is already growing a love for reading. Her taste in books is a little different from mine though– we usually spend a lot of time reading about what happens if you give a muffin to a moose, puppies that are way too pokey, and lots of talking animals.
What else is there to know about me? ….
This may come as a surprise to you, but I don’t blog and read for a living (..sigh!). Luckily, I have a career that I am also super passionate about. I am a special educator and currently in the process of obtaining a masters in Behavior Analysis and certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). I am a huge advocate for all students with special needs, but my heart bleeds compassion for those with emotional behavioral disorders. Ever heard anyone say “behavior is ‘my jam'”?… Yeah, didn’t think so. There aren’t many of us out here.
My love for reading in general is something I attribute to my loving mother. As far back as I can even remember, I have memories of her reading to me. We all know how important that is to little minds that are developing language and early reading skills. My earliest love was for the Boxcar Children and these cheesy Pony Palls books (that had trading cards inside… I mean, what else could you ask for in a book!?)… until I discovered the magical world of Harry Potter. As many in my generation would tell you–this was a TOTAL game changer. I will forever be a Potter Head. Always..
My love for Young Adult reads stems from my career as an educator. Teaching reading (especially novel studies) is my absolute favorite. I love engaging students in conversations about characters and themes and getting self-proclaimed non-readers absolutely hooked on reading. What an accomplishment that is!
My love for crime novels was born when my dad handed me a copy of Blood Work by Michael Connelly. His job always required him to travel a lot while I was growing up and he was an avid airport-reader. That one book was all it took. I logged my little teenage self onto Ebay and purchased a huge box of used copies of every Michael Connelly book that had been written. And I haven’t stopped reading since…
That’s about the gist of it..
