“‘Find what you love and let it kill you’-Charles Bukowski”
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.
Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.
Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

I have a confession to make…. this is the first Colleen Hoover book that I have ever picked up (*shields face*). I know, I knnow… I’ve had several of her titles sitting on my self for quite a while and just haven’t gotten to them yet.
However, when I saw that this title would be more of a suspense/thriller vibe, while still containing bits of steam that is so hallmark to Hoover’s work… I knew I HAD to pick this one up as soon as it released, and I am SO glad that I did.
Once our main character, Lowen, discovers this hidden manuscript that is an autobiography composed by Verity Crawford, the novel starts to alternate between Lowen’s story line (present) and Verity’s autobiographical entries, as Lowen is reading them. They are so perfectly paced and spaced that you just cannot stop reading! As soon as I would read an entry by Verity, I was dying to get to the next one to see what happens next in her past… and I was equally invested in the plot line of Lowen and Jeremy in the Crawford home.
Hoover has really proven that she can be a queen of multiple genres with the publication of Verity. I have never seen such a fantastic mash-up of genres as I did with this title. I mean there were some HOT and SEXY scenes in this novel, without being overpowering to the overall feel of the novel… which is DARK, twisty, and suspenseful. Every time that Lowen reads a chapter from the autobiography manuscript she found of Verity Crawford’s, she is taken aback with shock, anxiety, and disgust. And let me tell you… I had the exact same reactions after every chapter that covered her autobiography.
This is a MUST READ. Seriously. And I hope that Colleen has plans to bless us with more titles like this one because I was SO invested in this!
Slightly bad news is that this title is only available on Kindle right now.. but will be releasing in paperback later in the month (check out CoHo’s website for more information on the status of that). However.. the good news is that this is a Kindle Unlimited title, which means that you can read it for FREE if you have a subscription (and if you don’t.. I recommend trying it out.. they recently had a promotion for trying 3 months for 99 cent! This promotion may still be going on!).
